Zachary Cope, MCFC Master’s Intern, Restoration Level II Certified, QMHP - OR

Everyone faces unique challenges in life, and it can be overwhelming. There is no reason to be alone with struggle. My aim as a counselor is to offer a safe place for support and new approaches. You will find me to be positive and encouraging, helping to find your strengths, clarify your goals, and move forward with hope.

I like to work with adults, couples, and teens struggling from an array of issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief, relationship challenges, vocational decisions, and other major life transitions. Helping parents who have gone through divorce and those with blended families is work that is especially close to my heart. I know firsthand the difficulties of these experiences and the immense reward of working through the interpersonal challenges associated with them. I value work with people of all genders but love to help males create a new lens for viewing the world. Society does not teach the value of vulnerability and emotionality to boys. Men often put on a mask, being competitive, aggressive, rational, tough, and not viewing interpersonal relationships as a true measure of success.

I am a current graduate student at George Fox University and my primary approach to working with clients is Restoration Therapy. This model uses mindfulness, attachment theory and emotional regulation for a holistic approach to bettering mental health and relationships. I also believe in the importance of the mind-body connection and working with the nervous system. I like to use TRE (tension, stress, and trauma releasing exercises) for those it can benefit.

I am a small business owner and have found joy over the years in mentoring young entrepreneurs. I’ve worked to develop community oriented projects and have traveled internationally for volunteer projects. My views of culture, values and beliefs were in part shaped by these experiences. I enjoy hiking, sports, adventures with my kids and loving my wife. I live in Portland with a blended family of three kids and our opinionated dog, Doc.
